Heated Saltwater Pools: What Buyers Should Know

By Tim Tepes · Associate Broker, REALTOR®

One of the most memorable features of 1906 Grouse Court is its heated saltwater swimming pool. Set in a landscaped backyard with a hot tub and gazebo, it turns the property into a true resort-style retreat. If you are considering this home, here is what you should know about how a saltwater pool works and why buyers often prefer it.

How a saltwater pool is different

A saltwater pool does not hold heavily chlorinated water. Instead, a salt chlorine generator converts dissolved salt into chlorine through electrolysis, so the water is sanitized continuously and gently. The result is softer water that is noticeably easier on eyes, skin, and swimsuits than a traditional chlorine pool.

The value of a heated pool

Heating extends the swimming season well beyond the hottest summer weeks. A heated pool is comfortable on cooler spring and fall days, which means more use out of the same investment. For a family, that can make the difference between a pool that gets used a few weeks a year and one that anchors the whole summer.

What to keep in mind

  • Salt cells need attention. The generator cell is a wear item that is eventually replaced, so budget for periodic maintenance.
  • Salt can be hard on some surfaces. Nearby stone, concrete, and certain metals should be chosen and maintained with salt exposure in mind.
  • Regular testing still matters. Saltwater pools still need pH and stabilizer checks, just less frequent chemical handling.

A heated saltwater pool is one of those features that is hard to appreciate from a photo alone. The best way to understand it is to see the backyard in person. Tim Tepes is happy to set up a private tour of 1906 Grouse Court so you can picture your summers there.
