Williams Township, PA Area Guide

Williams Township is rural-suburban river country in southeastern Northampton County, with the Delaware River forming its eastern border and the New Jersey side of the river just across. This guide covers the schools, history, recreation, and commutes that shape life here, from the Delaware Canal towpath to the Easton Area School District.

The township

River country with deep history

Established in 1750 (and part of Northampton County from 1752), Williams Township covers about 18 square miles of rolling farmland, wooded hills, and riverside land just south of Easton. Around 6,500 people call it home, drawn by larger lots, open space, and a slower pace that is still only minutes from town.

Historically the township supplied iron ore, timber, and lime, and the Delaware & Lehigh Canals supported the region's early iron industry here. Two National Register of Historic Places sites remain: the Coffeetown Grist Mill and the Camelback Stone Arch Bridge. That heritage still shapes the landscape of stone buildings, farmsteads, and canal structures along the river.
